So long Morocco

We’ve just finished shooting Day 10 of the Spring/Summer 12 Icebreaker photoshoot.

The tour ended in Asilah (pronounced Ah-see-lah), a small coastal resort town with spanish origins.

It’s been an amazing ride. We’ve seen a lot of Morocco, albeit a little cooler than we would’ve liked.  We all brought our summer gears, but probably spent most of the time in our base layers.

When I last wrote we’d just outrun the unseasonal snow in the Atlas Mountains as we made tracks for the desert.  The landscape was everchanging. From the snowcapped Atlas to the arid lands west of the Sahara.

The snake charmers of the Marrakech gave way to the Sherpers of the upper Atlas.  Tia even got to ride a fine donkey before we arrived in the Medieval city of Fez.

The crew probably had their fair share of Chicken and lamb Tagine, luckily the options got better towards the end.  Jonathan did his best to fight off Bachir who was constantly up for a wrestle. Must be how things are done here.

Looking forward to sharing more stories on our return.

Till then, au revoir.

A Sneak Peek from our Spring/Summer 12 photoshoot

Salam Alikom.  A long overdue update from the Icebreaker crew shooting our Spring/Summer 12 collection in Morocco.

We’ve just completed Day 5 of the shoot and things are off to a good start.

After landing in Casablanca, we drove to Marrakech where we based ourselves.  We haven’t had the warmest of weather, in fact we got caught in a rather unseasonal snow storm as we passed through the Atlas Mountains.  Locals were saying they hadn’t seen snow in there in 5 yrs.

Being Kiwis, we’re used to having a diverse number of eating options at the ready. Sadly, even though we love Moroccan cuisine – you get tired of only having 2 choices every time you sit down for a meal. It’s either chicken and lemon tagine, or lamb and vegetable couscous. Things we’re looking up today as there was Riz Kashmir (turkey in curry with rice), 6 out of our crew of 7 ordered it.

Bachir, our guide has been great.  He’s hooked us up with his driver friends Abdula and Mohammed.  His negotiation skills are paramount as he helps us navigate our way north.  We’re on route to Fez tomorrow before we hit the coast.  It should be good although there are a fair few km’s to cover over the next few days.  If you know anyone in Morocco, we’re still on the lookout for a donkey and good looking handler.

Here are a few shots of our journey, more can be found here.  Enjoy.

A sneak peek from our new Spring /Summer 11 range

The team have just come back from shooting our new Spring/Summer 11 range, lucky things.  They travelled to Portland (US), up to Rotorua in the North Island (NZ), and down to Arthur’s Pass in the South Island to capture our gear in action.

We wanted to share a couple of shots with you as we’re pretty stoked with the outcome.  Can’t wait for the range to hit shelves.
