Running with support

It started as a simple bet; if a certain number of people liked the Teton Running Company Facebook page, I would  let the public choose my outfit for a the next local race. No harm there, I thought. I’ll probably end up running in some high split shorts and a bright jersey.

Turns out the people felt I needed a little more support and that I had a stomach to die for, or at least laugh at. The votes were counted and a running skirt and sports bra reigned as champions.

The skirt seemed simple enough, a compression short with some extra drapery, in all reality very comfortable. The sports bra was another issue. Ask any girl and they will tell you this is a big deal. Make the wrong choice and you will be bouncing, rubbing, or even worse you might have the highly feared (and completely detestable) ‘uni-boob’.  Can you see the environment for a nickname being created if I made the wrong decision? The Icebreaker GT Run Rush Bra was the obvious choice.  Icebreaker fits great and if I was going to subject my man chest to tight fitting womenswear (and inevitable humiliation),  I could only put my trust in the sheep. I never see any sheep taking flack about their chests.

The race went beautifully. I looked great, had no support problems, and the merino felt amazing. Chest sweat was no issue and I’m certain that’s the best I’ve ever smelled after a race. Just like the bra, I was hot to trot.

Launching Icebreaker’s SoHo Run Club

Here’s a Blog post from our friends at Running Caffeinated who helped us launch our SoHo NYC Run Club on Wednesday night:

In a word, tonight was…fantabulous! Yes, it was that cool that I had to invent a word to describe it. Icebreaker, the run gear that everyone runner should be wearing, just launched their very own run group with, Running Caffeinated! We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout on this dreary NYC evening. We kicked-off the very first run with an easy 4 miles along the West Side Highway. And awaiting us at the store – an amazing spread of food.

What made the night even more spectacular was special guest, Kathrine Switzer, the very first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon. Her spirit, energy and passion for the sport are inspiring and infectious. I practically jumped out of my skin when I say living legend Kathrine Switzer. She is such a warm and welcoming person you just want to give her a hug and that’s exactly what I did, I couldn’t help myself!

Even cooler, was the fact that she accompanied us on our run. She took the time to chat with each runner in the group. She listened as everyone anxiously spilled their own passion for running, what they were training for, past accomplishments, etc.

The post-run cuisine was better than what you’d find in a five star restaurant. And while water and Gatorade are usually the only rehydrating options, every now and then it’s nice to have some fine New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc or an IPA to go with that salmon ceviche or lamb pie. And for dessert, yes, dessert, raspberry lamington. Chef Mark Simmons took the post-run food table to a completely new level.

The evening wrapped up with a motivational, inspiring and entertaining talk from Kathrine about her quest to compete the Motatapu Icebreaker Marathon and the race that started it all, that fateful day in Boston.

If you missed the chance to join us for our inaugural run don’t worry; we’ll be back next Wednesday and every Wednesday after that, same time, same place, same Icebreaker run shirt. Because it’s No Stink!

Icebreaker SoHo TouchLab Spring/Summer Launch Party

On Friday March 25th, the Icebreaker TouchLab in SoHo New York City launched our Spring/Summer line with a VIP event in store. The night was a fantastic success with customers enjoying 25-50% off our new gear along with a great selection of food plus New Zealand wine and beer. Special thanks to both, Andrew and Sally Harris from Stonecrop Wines, and New Zealand Wine for their generous donations to this event.

Our resident in-store blogger Gretchen Low has written this poem about the evening, enjoy!

Excitingly it came to that time of year
For Icebreaker to launch its Spring Summer gear
We planned an event
Invitations were sent
“Come join us and celebrate here”

And then came the thought, if we’re having a do
Well why don’t we sell our Winter line too?
So boxes were packed
Down the stairs and then stacked
In the shape of a fort gone askew

When the night of the event finally rolled around
New Zealand food, wine and beer had been found
Models were hired
With their clothing inspired
That was sure to make people drop to the ground

We opened our doors at seven to guests
Some came to party in their Sunday best
Others were not
They were just there to shop
And get the Icebreaker addiction off their chests

Now for those of you who may not have guessed
The night ended up a fantastic success
So from the Lab that’s called Touch
Thank you very much
We hope you enjoy your new Spring Summer dress
