Athletes Conquer “Insane” Race

Running a relay race from Montreal to New York City is no picnic, but a group of Icebreaker-sponsored athletes recently met this awesome challenge.

Our Montreal Touch_Lab_ sponsored 10 athletes and two coaches from ‘Esprit de Corps’ to compete in the 617k race. The relay involved running 10k six times, which was especially tough for those athletes who hadn’t done any endurance running before.

Sonia Laboursodiere, a member of group, feared her injuries would prevent her from running her part of the relay.  Despite thinking that the race was “a bit insane”, Sonia decided to go ahead to prove to her four sons “that when you really want something in life, you can achieve it”.

It was a hard slog, but Sonia and her fellow runners successfully completed the race in about 65 hours. All the athletes were running to raise funds for a summer camp for underprivileged children.

“Life sometimes bringing us at a point where we need to make a decision about what we want to accomplish.  This challenge has made me realize that I am able to do more than I thought,” says Sonia.

“I feel much strong and more confident than I did before the race.”

The team all wore Icebreaker_GT tops and caps. Later, they said the fit and style of their Velocity Crewe tops were amazing, very comfortable, and didn’t stink.

Summer in Superfine

I went to Mexico last year, in August. It was stinking hot, like 30+ degrees. Everyone asked why we are going then, but us Kiwis like the hot weather so we thought, why not?  I packed my summer clothes ready for the hot weather; I’d just got a Superfine 140 tank top from our Spring/Summer collection.  I took it because I loved it but secretly thought I wouldn’t wear it because it would be too hot.  But it was perfect, I wore it most days and the best thing was that I didn’t need to wash it for two weeks and it didn’t smell.  It was so easy to pack, it rolled up into nothing - if only I had one of each colour.

The best thing was that we were there in the rainy season so at night time it poured with rain. As I stepped out after a few too many beers to head to the next bar in the pouring rain, my trusty Icebreaker singlet stood the test of the rain. Although I got wet, it kept me comfortable and I could go to another bar wearing the very same Icebreaker top smelling fresh as daisy and park up for another beer!  Icebreaker Rocks!!

Check out our photo shoot journey’s

We get to head away to some pretty exciting places when we shoot our new clothing ranges. And for the last couple of years we’ve managed to take some nice footage along the way.

We’ve had some memorable experiences on these trips, including a car crash in the back blocks of India, photographing our models surrounded by bodyguards in Sao Paulo, and climbing up tree’s to relieve ourselves on the shores of the Amazon so the infamous ‘penis fish’ didn’t make their mark on our journey.

Icebreaker Superfine Journey - Brazil Summer 09

Our Spring/Summer 09 Journey to Brazil is worth checking out.  We were amazed by the breathtaking landscape and wildlife of the Amazon, not to mention the copious amount of cheap caprihana’s we drunk along the way.  Maybe you can tell by the shakiness of the camera in some of the shots!

Icebreaker Photoshoot - Mt Aspiring Winter 09

We shoot our Fall/Winter ranges in the home of Icebreaker clothing - the Southern Alps of NZ.  Take a look at some of the crazy locations we have to shoot in this video - we’re on the edge of cliffs, sleeping in sheep station woolsheds over night, and even have our models swimming in ice cold water just so they can get another top to keep (dedication!).

Join us on our journey’s.
